G7 ministers reiterate support for Ukraine and condemn Russian 'nuclear rhetoric'

(Patria) - Foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) leading economies expressed support for Ukraine yesterday in a final statement after a two-day meeting in Fiuggi, a resort southeast of Rome in Italy, which was also attended by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiha.

They also condemned what they described as Russia's "irresponsible and threatening nuclear rhetoric". They also warned that North Korean support for Russia marks a dangerous escalation of the conflict, with serious consequences for European and Indo-Pacific security, reports RSE.

The foreign ministers of Great Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the USA highlighted Russia's use of a medium-range ballistic missile on November 21, saying it was "further proof of its reckless and escalatory behavior".

They also stated that their support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence "will remain unwavering".

G7 ministers emphasized that they hope to begin distributing funds from the $50 billion package from frozen Russian assets by the end of the year.

They also pledged to act against groups helping Russia evade sanctions imposed on it after its invasion of Ukraine nearly three years ago.
