SARAJevo, (Patria) - The Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton proposed, and the Government of Sarajevo Canton adopted a decision on co-financing the purchase of feed for wild animals in the amount of 10,000 convertible marks, which will be allocated to the Union of Hunting Associations of Sarajevo Canton. For the specified amount of funds, the Union will purchase feed and distribute it evenly among hunting societies, which will then distribute the feed to feeding stations within the hunting grounds they manage.
"Due to severe droughts and lack of food for wild animals, primarily bears, we held a series of meetings with hunting societies from the Sarajevo Canton area to find an adequate response to the increasingly frequent damage caused by bears to farm owners. We have adopted a series of conclusions that hunting societies will implement with the aim of protecting people's lives and property, and the Ministry will support the work of these societies, which are mostly associations of citizens and do not have a stable source of funding, by co-financing the procurement of feed," stated the Minister of Economy Adnan Delić.
He emphasized that this is currently the only possible way to prevent further damage, considering that the bear is a protected species and the possibilities for action are limited.
During the previous period, bears caused material damage to farmers in the areas of the municipalities of Vogošća, Hadžići, Stari Grad, and Ilijaš.
