Ministry of Economy KS at International Conference on Agriculture: Domestic Food Production is an Imperative

(Patria) - The International Conference on Agriculture and Food Industry, the 32nd in a row, was held in Sarajevo over the past two days. The organizer of the conference is the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences of the University of Sarajevo, and for the second year in a row, the Ministry of Economy of Sarajevo Canton has been a financial co-sponsor of this event.  

On behalf of the Minister of Economy of Sarajevo Canton, Adnan Delić, the Assistant Minister Jusuf Brkić welcomed the attendees at the opening of the conference, emphasizing that the Ministry of Economy, which also oversees agriculture, understands the importance of agriculture and domestic food production. As he stated, accordingly, the Ministry is increasing the amounts of funds year after year to encourage the development of primary agricultural production, as well as the implementation of projects significant for the development of agriculture and the production of healthy, domestic food.  

“Globalization has brought us new rules of life, and the importance of the food we produce ourselves is now an imperative. We are aware of this, and although we are not a canton primarily oriented towards agriculture, we invest a lot in strengthening primary agricultural production. Having our own food industry is particularly important today, in a time of global socio-economic crises and major changes for which it is no longer a question of whether they will repeat, but how often they will occur,” Brkić said, among other things.  

The focus of this year's conference was on how local production systems can overcome global challenges, and agricultural experts, researchers, and scientists from all over Europe presented research results in 120 scientific papers, which will be published in the proceedings after the conference. Through program panels, participants exchanged knowledge, experiences, and ideas with the aim of finding adequate answers in the field of food production facing global challenges such as pandemics, wars, and the like.  

The conclusions of the conference will be presented to decision-makers, as in previous years, so that, by following research results, local production policies can be aligned with the needs of the population and the market.
