Munich Security Conference: 'BiH must be part of the family of European and NATO countries'

(Patria) - Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić  attended the opening of the 55th Munich Security Conference today.

At this year's security conference, which runs until Sunday and is attended by 35 heads of state or government, more than a hundred foreign ministers, officials from international organizations, and experts from around the world, discussions will focus, among other things, on the future of defense cooperation, the crisis of the liberal international order, the arms race, and security in Southeast Europe. The conference was opened by the Minister of Defence of the Federal Republic of Germany Ursula von der Leyen and the Minister of Defence of the United Kingdom of Great Britain Gavin Williamson.

In his address to the attendees, Conference President Wolfgang Ischinger said that this year's conference is the most important since its inception.

Before the opening of the Conference, Chairman Zvizdić said: "The Munich Security Conference is an opportunity to get acquainted with developments, trends, and global relations in the field of security, mutual cooperation, and economic prosperity. Bearing in mind the introductory statements and documents of the Conference, as well as the challenges facing the modern world in preserving stability and fighting terrorism and organized crime, it is completely clear that BiH must be part of the family of European and NATO countries, that this is a path that has no alternative and a path that leads to long-term peace and stability for both BiH and the Western Balkans, and that therefore this path has no alternative. All other ideas are short-term, without valid arguments, based on narrow political and personal goals, and certainly cannot withstand the test of global and European processes whose key principle is the multilateral defense of European democratic values," said Chairman Zvizdić.

Chairman Zvizdić also attended the panel discussion "The Future of Defense Cooperation – Combined Forces?" today, which included NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg, and the foreign ministers of France, Poland, Canada, and Japan, as well as a member of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.
