(Patria) - President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović decided to convene an emergency session of the Defence and Security Council, due to, as he said, the escalation of violence on the streets and clashes between criminal clans in Podgorica.
"Regarding the recent events, the escalation of violence on our streets and clashes between criminal clans, which rightly cause concern and a sense of fear among citizens, I have made the decision to convene an emergency session of the Defence and Security Council. The session will be held within the shortest legally prescribed period," Milatović emphasized in a post on the X network.
In addition to the Council members - the Speaker of the Parliament and the Prime Minister, representatives of the Government in charge of security portfolios, as well as heads of key security institutions - the Police Directorate and the National Security Agency, will also be invited to the session.
"From the competent institutions, I request: a detailed insight into the current situation, clear, decisive and immediately applicable measures for the preservation and protection of public safety and security. Citizens must have the feeling that the state stands behind them strongly, organized and without hesitation. Due to the seriousness of the situation, I expect the presence of all invited members and participants of the session," Milatović stated.
In Podgorica, a murder occurred last night in which Ivan Milačić (32) was killed. According to operational data, the murder is linked to the activities of organized criminal groups.
