Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić remains in custody because his appeal was rejected, unofficial Croatian media report, Patria reports.
Let's recall, the Zagreb County Court was supposed to announce by the end of the week whether Mayor Milan Bandić, after his defense appealed the decision to detain him, would remain in Remetinec or be allowed to defend himself from freedom again.
Two appeals signed by Bandić's lawyers Krešimir Krsnik and Marijan Hanžeković were sent to the non-trial panel of the County Court on Tuesday.
The investigating judge of the Zagreb County Court sent Bandić back to custody on March 10, accepting the claims of the USKOK (Bureau for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime) that while free, he "acted contrary to the conditions of the bail decision and the promise given not to obstruct the criminal proceedings by influencing witnesses and not to repeat the criminal offense".
Let's recall, Bandić is suspected in the Agram affair of having damaged the city he managed for 12 years, but also of having defrauded the State Budget by not paying taxes on donations received in the presidential campaign for the 2010 elections. The prosecution estimates the total "damage" at around 20 million kuna.
