Mike Pence: An attack on one NATO member is an attack on all of us

US Vice President Mike Pence pledged that the country will protect NATO allies from attacks, including the Baltic states, which are nervously observing Russia's growing military presence in the region, world media report, as stated by the Patria agency.

- The US, with President Trump at the helm, firmly stands behind our Article Five, which speaks of mutual defense. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us - Pence told reporters at a meeting with the presidents of Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia in Tallinn.

Noting that Trump "knows that security is the foundation of our progress," Pence emphasized that America and the Baltic states will seek new ways to strengthen mutual trade, which currently amounts to up to 3.5 billion US dollars, and an increasing number of mutual investments.

He previously met with Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid, Latvian President Raimonds Vējonis, and Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaitė.

Estonia currently holds the rotating presidency of the 28-member European Union.

Pence is scheduled to visit NATO troops from Britain, France, and the US stationed in Estonia. The Alliance has deployed approximately four thousand soldiers and weapons in the three Baltic states and Poland to counter Russia's presence in the Baltic Sea region.

Pence's visit to Estonia is the first stop on his European tour, which will be followed by Georgia and Montenegro, two other regions that, according to AP, are facing strong pressure from Russia.
