Michelle and Barack Obama Support Kamala Harris for President of the USA

(Patria) - Former US President Barack Obama has endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate for US President, meaning the current Vice President has now received the support of all high-profile, politically active party figures for her White House bid.

After Harris received the support of Bill and Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, a number of state governors and top Democrats in Congress, as well as Biden himself after he withdrew from the race, Obama added his voice, representing a major boost for the Vice President and her campaign.

Michelle Obama, who was mentioned as a possible candidate, can also be heard offering her support in a phone call with Harris, which her campaign recorded and released on Friday.

Michelle Obama told Harris she was proud of her and that these were historic steps.

“We called to say that Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to support you and are doing everything we can to get through these elections and into the Oval Office,” said the former president.

With a smile, standing near a vehicle, Harris replied that the support meant a lot to her.

“But most of all, I just want to tell you that the words you’ve spoken and the friendship you’ve offered all these years mean more than I can express. So thank you both!” Harris added.

Obama was the first African American president and is supporting a candidate who, if she defeats Donald Trump in November, will become the first woman, African American, and first person of South Asian descent to serve as president.

Harris has narrowed the gap with Trump in public opinion polls, at 48% to 47% according to a New York Times/Siena College poll. In this poll, Trump led Biden by six percentage points after the debate.
