MFS – EMMAUS launches aid campaign for Rohingya Muslims

The domestic non-governmental humanitarian organization MFS-EMMAUS has launched an aid campaign for Rohingya Muslims who are experiencing genocide, exodus, and violence in Myanmar (Burma).

The dictatorial regime in Myanmar has so far killed over 30,000 Muslims, while most of them have been living in difficult conditions for many years. Rohingya are fleeing discrimination and death to refugee camps in Bangladesh, which have become overcrowded. They live in makeshift shelters that are insufficient to protect them from rain and storms.

Given the inadequate conditions, some tents house up to ten people, some of them living together with livestock, and part of the makeshift settlement was also flooded after heavy rainfall.

Based on data available to the Assembly of Rohingya Associations from Bangladesh, published on September 4, 2017, it is indicated that Muslims in Burma have suffered the following horrific losses since August 25 of this year (i.e., in the last 20 days):

- 6,334 killed,

- 8,349 wounded,

- 500 women raped,

- 103 villages burned down,

- 23,250 houses burned down,

- 335,000 displaced without shelter,

- 24,166 refugee families in Bangladesh,

- 145,000 total refugees in Bangladesh,

- 190,000 waiting at the Bangladesh border for entry permits,

- 250 mosques destroyed,

- 80 schools destroyed.

A representative of the Rohingya Muslims based in Bangladesh has called on Muslim countries to help his people against whom violence is being committed.

- We in Bosnia and Herzegovina know best what it means to be a victim of genocide; let's not close our eyes to the horrific scenes, let's not be silent to their cries, let's act and help at least those who have survived! Let's try to alleviate the suffering of these people or at least spread the truth about what is happening to them in the hope that those who can will stop this evil - states the appeal of MFS-EMMAUS.
