Merkel: Terrorism did not come with refugees

German Chancellor Angela Merkel rejected the connection between the arrival of refugees in Germany and the danger of terrorist attacks, German media write, reports Patria.

- The phenomenon of Islamist terrorism and the Islamic State is not a phenomenon that arrived with refugees, but rather we faced it before, said the Chancellor and President of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) on Wednesday evening at an election rally in Neustrelitz in the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, where local elections will be held on September 4th.

Merkel emphasized that "there are cases" in which refugees have been attempted to be recruited for Islamist terrorism, but that this is only a marginal phenomenon.
