Merhamet donated 125 tons of meat to Syrian refugees in Turkey

Muslim Aid Society "Merhamet" donated 125 tons of sacrificial meat for Syrian refugees who found shelter in the Republic of Turkey. This amounts to 7,500 sacrificial animals from Australia, which were provided by Humanitarian Organization "Merhamet" MDD, in cooperation with "Merhamet" Australia, during this year's "Kurban" campaign, reports the Patria News Agency.

The sacrificial meat from Australia was transported by ship in five containers to the port in the Turkish city of Mersin, from where it was delivered to five locations housing refugee camps where Syrian refugees reside: two containers to the city of Hatay (Hatay Yayladag), and one each to the cities of Kilis, Gaziantep, and Şanliurfa.

The delivery of sacrificial meat for Syrian refugees in Turkey was attended by the Secretary-General of Humanitarian Organization "Merhamet" MDD, Sidik Aždahić, and this major "Merhamet" campaign in that country was carried out with the assistance of AFAD and the Turkish Red Crescent, who are long-term partners of "Merhamet".

The Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Turkey, Damir Džanko, also provided exceptional support and selfless assistance to "Merhamet's" campaign.

Incidentally, "Merhamet" has been helping Syrian refugees who found shelter in refugee camps in Turkey since 2015. It is worth noting that in 2014, in a similar campaign, "Merhamet" donated 121 tons of sacrificial meat to Syrian refugees in Turkey. A year earlier, in a joint campaign with the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, "Merhamet" donated 14 containers with 280 washing machines and one container with sinks to Syrian refugees housed in camps in Şanliurfa and Viranşehir.

- These valuable donations were provided by "Merhamet" thanks to the solidarity of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina who, for who knows what time, have placed their trust in this humanitarian organization and donated sacrificial animals for refugees from Syria. We thank them once again through this medium - stated the President of Humanitarian Organization "Merhamet" MDD, Hajrudin Šahić.
