Memić on expectations after verdict: State Prosecutor's Office should arrest the gang

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - After the repeated proceedings in the Dženan Memić case at the Cantonal Court in Sarajevo concluded today, and the verdict is announced for Monday, January 13, Muriz Memić, and lawyers Rusmir Karkin and Ifet Feraget addressed the media.

"Four years of pain and suffering have finally come to an end. The mockery of the victim, because the Sarajevo Cantonal Prosecutor's Office is mocking my dead child, mocking my family, my friends, the entire public and you media and the Court panel. They presented lies, from the first day they knew Dženan was murdered and who murdered him, they know who they are hiding. I will never stop. I am not a coward, I will never forgive them for this. They insulted us a lot. The verdict is coming soon, I will announce the day of protest because we are moving forward," said Memić. 

When asked what he expects after the verdict, for which the State Prosecutor's Office, which opened an investigation into the Dženan Memić case for organized crime, is also waiting, Memić said:

"I expect the gang and scum of the Cantonal Prosecutor's Office, led by Dalida Burzić, Sead Kreštalica, and certain police officers, to be arrested. There is a lot of crime here, the investigation is ongoing, a lot has been done. Today's presentation of Kreštalica with Ištvan Bodol is not because they care about him, but to get documentation from the State Prosecutor's Office to see what they have done. I trust Gordana Tadić," said Memić. 

Memić explained that he was informed about what was in the autopsy of Dženan Memić, performed by Hamza Žujo.

"It is accurately described what kind of swing it was and with what object and why that injury was on his shoulder. Everything is described in the autopsy, but this court is not interested in who killed Dženan, they are conducting a case for a traffic accident," said Memić. 

Defense attorney Rusmir Karkin said he was almost certain that an acquittal would be delivered.

"In this repeated proceeding, it has been clearly proven that the Prosecutor's Office has advocated a theory from the very beginning that is unprovable, incredible, and impossible. In today's main hearing, we heard expert witnesses who conducted traffic and medical expertise, and we heard the Prosecutor's Office trying to pass off some pamphlet by a person who is not a Bosnian citizen at all, a pamphlet presented as a finding and opinion that in its entirety disputes the legal evidence obtained by the Court panel," said Karkin, adding that a historic verdict is expected, which will be the beginning of establishing the truth about what happened to the late Dženan. 

Lawyer Ifet Feraget, who presented the closing arguments today, said after the trial ended that no prosecutor or police officer who worked on the Memić case would go without an investigation.

"All of this must be established. Force buries justice, and if force buries justice, then it is completely clear why young people are leaving this country. This is an attempt by force to bury justice. You can find 100,000 expert witnesses who will say that a traffic accident occurred, but you have no evidence that it did. Evidence is not an expert's finding if the court does not accept it based on the evidence on which it was made. There is no court on this planet that would accept that a traffic accident happened here. The Prosecutor's Office presented assumptions based on the ultimate goal of the Prosecutor's Office to protect the known killer of Dženan Memić, I will say the killer, from being brought to justice. We have known this from day one," said Feraget. 

Feraget also expressed expectations of an acquittal.

"The drama of this case is that there is no evidence that a traffic accident occurred. Someone has wasted a huge amount of money here. And I believe Gordana Tadić, and I hope for a prompt call. This verdict is being awaited, although it should not be. This is the biggest scandal in BiH justice, along with the David Dragičević case. If it is not resolved, we will all pack our bags together," said Feraget. 

Feraget also commented on the departure of a member of the Court panel, Silvana Brković-Mujagić, from the courtroom during his closing arguments.

"Calling anyone to account is not a threat. I have the right to say that the prosecutors in this case have abused their official authority, I will repeat it 100 times. I have evidence for that. I only told the panel member not to address me because they are not allowed to address me or interrupt me while I am presenting my closing arguments," said Feraget.
