
(Patria) - A delegation of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, led by Minister Dragan Mektić, is on an official visit to the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels. Minister Mektić met today with the Director-General of the European Commission for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations with whom he discussed the current security and humanitarian situation caused by the increased influx of migrants into BiH. Minister Mektić informed the representatives of the European Commission in detail about the security and humanitarian challenges that Bosnia and Herzegovina is currently facing, especially the local communities of the Una-Sana Canton.
It was concluded that the meeting was extremely useful, and that the representatives of the European Commission expressed gratitude to Bosnia and Herzegovina for the efforts made so far in managing the migrant crisis in BiH. The European Commission expressed its readiness to provide additional financial and technical assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and expressed its expectations that Bosnia and Herzegovina will further strengthen its internal coordination capacities as soon as possible. It was also concluded that strengthening cooperation between international organizations operating in BiH and the authorities in BiH is of essential importance in order to treat migrants in accordance with international law.
Furthermore, it was agreed that the next meeting will be held in Sarajevo in early September 2019.
