Mektić: I call on the HJPC to stop obstructions as soon as possible and appoint prosecutors for terrorism

We in BiH are creating and will very soon create a mechanism for all security agencies within BiH and OSA to become one body that will jointly fight against terrorism in BiH, said the Minister of Security of BiH Dragan Mektić after the meeting of the Strike Group for Combating Terrorism, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

The Minister emphasized that the two key things are commitment and trust.

- To fight against every form of threat to BiH by terrorism as one body. We will establish an Operational Group and you see why we need a strong Prosecutor's Office and a Department for Combating Terrorism. 60 serious terrorism cases are being processed within the Prosecutor's Office and security agencies - said Mektić.

He said that the start of the Operational Group's work is expected in 10 to 15 days, and he specifically touched upon the problem of the shortage of prosecutors working on terrorism cases, i.e., that only one prosecutor is working.

- I call on the HJPC to appoint a certain number of prosecutors as soon as possible, as foreseen by the competition, so that we can engage with these 60 cases that are currently being processed in the Prosecutor's Office - says Mektić, adding that he has information that individuals in the HJPC, such as someone named Nezirević or Suljagić, are obstructing the appointment of prosecutors.
If I encounter obstructions from anyone, I will state it publicly, and such people should be prevented from doing so.

He said that the fight against terrorism in BiH cannot be expensive.

- If we eliminate all terrorist threats in BiH and prevent terrorist events, it has no price, and all that has been invested will pay off. The Operational Group will not be exclusively a service of the BiH Prosecutor's Office, but for all prosecutor's offices where cases in the field of terrorism are processed.
