Mektić visits Border Police on refugee crisis

Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić and his deputy Mijo Krešić visited the BiH Border Police Headquarters today and spoke with Director Zoran Galić, deputy Zijad Srabović and Head of the Director's Cabinet Radiša Samardžija. The meeting was prompted by the refugee crisis in the region, and discussions also covered activities undertaken by the BiH Border Police in accordance with the Emergency Plan for Ensuring Additional Capacities, Control and Management of Mass Refugee Influx into BiH, adopted by the BiH Council of Ministers, reports the BiH news agency Patria.

Representatives of the Ministry of Security and the BiH Border Police discussed operational plans for the BiH Border Police to handle cases of increased migrant influx, or increased refugee influx. In addition to local and regional plans, the BiH Border Police has adopted a Framework Action Plan for Mass Migration Influx on the territory of BiH, which envisages the reallocation of human and material-technical resources, according to possibilities, to parts of the state border where the need arises.

Director Zoran Galić emphasized the Border Police's commitment to cooperation with other institutions from BiH and the region in order to increase our country's readiness for a potential mass influx of refugees from the Middle East.

As part of the visit, BiH Minister of Security Dragan Mektić and Deputy Minister Mijo Krešić also attended a reception on the occasion of Bajram, traditionally organized by members of the Islamic faith for their colleagues from the agency. In the same way, members of the BiH Border Police celebrate Catholic and Orthodox Christmas within their organization.
