Mektić on wiretapping Croatia: Private interests attacked BiH's economy, we are obliged to prevent it

Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina Dragan Mektić said that the Intelligence-Security Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina did nothing illegal, and that it is the obligation of this agency to protect the interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its citizens, respecting the Constitution and legal regulations of the country.

When asked by journalists to comment on accusations from Croatia that OSA wiretapped Croatian officials and businessmen, Mektić said that it is a completely legal and legitimate right of every country, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, to protect its interests and the interests of its citizens, reports the Patria agency.

"The intelligence agency of BiH, as well as all other agencies within Bosnia and Herzegovina, along with all other competencies, are obliged to protect the economic interests of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to protect Bosnia and Herzegovina from disloyal and unfair attacks that can threaten the economic foundations of this country and cause economic damage to the state or citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Everything that was done, was done completely legally, legitimately, and there is nothing new in it. Every country does this, not only in Europe, but also in the world," said Mektić, adding that Bosnia and Herzegovina is obliged to act in accordance with the Constitution and laws of BiH, which Bosnia and Herzegovina is doing in this case.

"Everything we have found out, everything we have learned in this entire situation, which the portal Žurnal has also written about, which the Zagreb-based Nacional is also writing about, we have undertaken in accordance with the law, the Constitution of this country, protecting the economic interest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, not allowing the undermining of the economic system of Bosnia and Herzegovina." Mektić said that BiH will never wiretap anyone illegally and outside the law.

"Here, some private interests have attacked the economic foundations of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of course, we will prevent this in accordance with the law and the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Mektić.

"Whether this will bother someone in BiH, individuals, groups who found themselves in all of this, whether it will bother the interests of some other country, that does not concern us at this moment. The interest of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina obliges us," concluded Mektić, as reported by the Patria agency.
