Mektić: While half of BiH is burning in fires, politicians are trying to score points on the issue and the referendum

The Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dragan Mektić, called on the authorities in BiH to urgently establish a coordination mechanism that would mean a more effective fight against fires in the country, which, he said, have reached catastrophic proportions.

“We have a case where 15 percent of the territory of one municipality in BiH has burned down, and politicians are still looking at how to 'score' political points on the issue and NATO or a referendum,” criticized Minister Mektić at a press conference, and offered that the Ministry of Security coordinate the process to improve fire protection in the country.

“BiH has been excluded from international aid for fighting fires. All our efforts to fight fires have been reduced to about fifty backpacks and ordinary people who are trying to extinguish the fires themselves,” said Mektić. He pointed out that the damages from fires in BiH this year alone are such that for that money, fire fighting could have been significantly improved.

“Even though half of BiH is burning, no one is making any statements in any way. I appeal to start discussions on improving civil protection. Let's see what can be improved.”

Mektić also said in his humorous style that the helicopter of the RS Government, which is mentioned in the context of assisting in extinguishing fires in this part of the country, cannot even extinguish a grill after roasting meat, so it is absurd to talk about the role of such a helicopter in extinguishing fires, writes NAP.
