(Patria) - Mexico sent a team of firefighters to California on Saturday to help teams battling wildfires that have devastated parts of Los Angeles, Reuters reported.
"A humanitarian aid group is leaving for Los Angeles, California," Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote on social media network X on Saturday morning, posting photos of firefighters holding flags of Mexico and California and standing on a runway in front of two planes.
"We are a country of generosity and solidarity," she added.
At least 11 people have died and 10,000 properties have been damaged or destroyed in six simultaneous fires that have affected parts of Los Angeles County since Tuesday. The damage is expected to increase as firefighters are able to conduct house-to-house searches.
California Governor Gavin Newsom thanked Mexico in a message on social media network X posted on Friday after the deployment was announced.
"California is deeply grateful for President Sheinbaum's support as we work to contain the fires in Los Angeles," he wrote.
