Mehmedović: BiH should be admitted to NATO under urgent procedure, Electoral Law adapted to European values

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - "How to respond to the security and political crisis in BiH?" was the topic of today's regular session of the Association of Independent Intellectuals "Krug 99", and the president of the Association, Adil Kulenović, said at a press conference that the search for answers to the posed question is the greatest intellectual, moral, and political activity.

"Today we face the greatest historical challenges in preserving peace and the homeland, bearing the wounds as consequences of the UZP and genocide. The failure to remove the consequences of the UZP and genocide has cemented the political consequence, and those who committed these crimes have continued to implement the Greater Serbia policies of their neighbors. The policy of making concessions to perpetrators of violence against every right, both 30 years ago and today, without a vision for building the state by international and domestic actors, has resulted in the current situation," Kulenović added.

The introducer of today's session was Šemsudin Mehmedović, a member of the state parliament, who said that the intertwining of the interests of great powers has led to the strengthening of right-wing structures on the geopolitical, as well as the BiH political scene.

"The amendments to the Criminal Code of BiH imposed by the High Representative Valentin Inzko, which concern the prohibition of genocide denial, were a kind of trigger for the renewed escalation of fascist policies. The blockade of BiH institutions is the most pronounced activity of right-wing policies in BiH, with devastating consequences for citizens. Such moves directly threaten peace, and are examples of coups that the judiciary either does not react to or reacts mildly, which encourages such policies and deepens the crisis," Mehmedović stated.

He added that the blackmail policy of the Croatian Democratic Union of BiH is an additional problem, which international diplomats also use in their desire to achieve another diplomatic constitution.

"Genocide denial has united SNSD and HDZ as implementers of retrograde policies in BiH. Pamphlets depicting BiH as a security threat to the world originated in intelligence circles in Zagreb," Mehmedović stated.

He emphasizes that "decisive steps and measures are necessary to resolve the crisis in BiH."

"The international community must take steps for our country to become a member of NATO under an urgent procedure, following the example of Montenegro, for which the majority of BiH is ready. The implementation of all domestic and foreign court rulings must be a priority, and all negotiations should be conducted within BiH institutions, which should be enabled to be ready to respond to all challenges. BiH institutions need to be unblocked, and negotiations on the Electoral Law should yield European democratic solutions. Revisionism must not be allowed to overcome the achieved reforms for strengthening the state," Mehmedović emphasized.

He adds that the condition for further negotiations must be the fulfillment of the EU's 14 priorities and that elections must be held this year.

"Any negotiations on state and military property that would be registered at the entity level should be rejected. This would be a direct attack on the state and an strengthening of separatism. The BiH Ministry of Defense should conduct an analysis of the connection between the crisis in Ukraine and its possible consequences for BiH. Security services should develop a special response plan to Russian influence in BiH. It is necessary to declare all decisions of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska null and void and thus protect BiH from constitutional violence," Mehmedović explained.

He emphasizes that diplomatic efforts also need to be intensified.

"The political crisis in our country can be resolved in two ways. Through constitutional intervention by representatives of the international community in accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement. The Bonn Powers are an effective way to do this, or by declaring the Dayton Peace Agreement null and void, which would open the way for a new international conference at which a new civic constitution would be agreed upon, which would eliminate the consequences of genocide," Mehmedović stated.

He concluded that the public must unite in defense of the state from various types of attacks.
