(Patria) - The announcement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that the European Commission will recommend opening EU-BiH negotiations has sparked various reactions. While some take credit, especially the parties of the troika, HDZ and SNSD, there are also differing opinions.
State representative Šemsudin Mehmedović welcomed the news of the recommendation to open membership negotiations with the European Union.
"This decision is historically important. But we know that this decision comes relatively late and as a confirmation of changed geopolitical circumstances, not of substantial progress in BiH, and that for a secure future we must strengthen the state and its institutions. No one has the right to monetize this EU decision as their pre-election point.
Threats to BiH still exist, and negotiations will not guarantee us the security that NATO membership can provide.
The EU is our foreign policy goal, but no one in the EU will create for us a just and functional system in which our children will see hope for a better tomorrow, rather than being cheap and expendable labor in wealthy EU countries.
That is why we need the EU acquis, not the EU. That is why we must MOVE FORWARD," Mehmedović stated.
