Medvedev: United States is forcing Russia to consider nuclear tests

(Patria) - Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that Russia was forced to begin assessing the feasibility of preparations for nuclear tests due to the actions of the United States, TASS reported.

In a post on his English-language Telegram channel, he wrote that Donald Trump is
“the President of the United States and the consequences of such words are inevitable: Russia will be
forced to assess the expediency of conducting full nuclear tests itself”.

Trump said he had ordered the Pentagon to immediately resume testing of nuclear weapons, citing the fact that other countries are already doing so. The American leader did not specify what kind of tests he meant or whether he meant detonating nuclear warheads.

During a meeting with permanent members of the Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that while he adheres to the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, Moscow will respond if other participants, including the US, violate the agreement. He ordered the ministries of defense, foreign affairs, and special services to study the feasibility of preparing for such tests.

However, in an interview with TASS, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that at this stage there is no talk of actual preparations.
