International Mountain Day: See the beautiful scenes from BiH's beauties

International Mountain Day has been celebrated on December 11 since 2002, by decision of the UN. International Mountain Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of mountains for life, highlight the potential or difficult circumstances for the development of mountain resources, and an opportunity to form partnerships that will bring positive changes for the mountains and mountainous regions of the whole world, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

Mountains are of essential importance for life on Earth. Regardless of whether we live in the highest mountains or by the sea, we are often not sufficiently aware of how connected we are to mountains and in what ways they affect our lives. The largest amount of fresh water comes from the mountains, mountains are habitats for various plant and animal species, and every tenth inhabitant of the planet lives in mountainous regions. Despite this, this incredible web of life maintained by mountains is threatened by various factors that destroy the environment, the consequences of climate change, the abuse of mountain resources, armed conflicts, as well as poverty and hunger.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's mountains offer numerous facilities for all types of nature lovers, from hikers to extreme climbers. Over 30 mountain lodges have been built on mountains across BiH, which are available to everyone. A large number of mountaineering clubs organize visits to all mountains in BiH on a daily basis.
