The flotilla, consisting of more than 40 civilian ships, is carrying around 500 parliamentarians, lawyers and activists. It planned to break Israel's blockade of Gaza. The Israelis began the operation while the flotilla was about 90 nautical miles from the enclave. At least six ships have been intercepted so far.
The Global Sumud flotilla stated that most of its vessels continue their journey towards the coast of the Gaza Strip in the early hours of Thursday, despite disruptions.
"30 ships are still sailing strongly towards Gaza, only 46 nautical miles away, despite continuous aggression by the Israeli occupation navy," the flotilla announced on X at 3:20 a.m. local time (0020 GMT).
Agence France-Presse also quoted flotilla spokesman Saif Abukeshek, who said Israeli forces had intercepted 13 ships with a total of about 200 people, many of them from Spain and Italy.
However, in a video posted on Instagram, he stated: "Our mission continues." "They are determined," he said of the remaining vessels. "They are motivated and are doing everything in their power to succeed in breaking the siege as early as the morning hours."
