Attacker among seven dead in Hamburg

(Patria) - Hamburg police consider the attack on the Jehovah's Witnesses church, in which seven people were killed, an isolated incident, the dpa agency reported, citing security sources.

There are no indications that the perpetrator of the massacre is on the run and could be among the dead, Bild reported, citing police sources. Police said they found a dead person at the scene whom they believe could be the attacker.

The motives for the attack are currently unknown. An unknown perpetrator killed at least seven people and wounded several others with firearms in a Jehovah's Witnesses hall in Hamburg. Police received the report around 9:15 PM.

Police officers who entered found people who were "seriously injured by firearms, and some were killed," said Holgen Vehrein, a police spokesperson.

"Police officers also heard a shot from the upper part of the building and went upstairs where they also found a person. For now, we have no indication that the perpetrator has escaped," he added.

Previously, police urged citizens via an alert app to seek shelter and not leave their homes as long as the perpetrator or perpetrators are on the run. "Seek shelter as quickly as possible," the message read.

At the same time, citizens were urged not to spread inaccurate information through social networks. Police have cordoned off the scene of the attack, and special units are now present there.
