
German low-cost airline Germanwings started direct flights between Cologne/Bonn and Sarajevo on August 16, 2008, writes the Patria News Agency.
Unfortunately, today a plane belonging to this company, with 144 passengers and six crew members, crashed in France after hitting a mountain, and initial reports indicate there were no survivors. The plane was flying the route Dusseldorf - Barcelona. Among the deceased are 20 children and two babies. The children were on a student exchange program in Spain.
Germanwings is a German low-cost airline and is wholly owned by Eurowings, in which Lufthansa holds a 49 percent stake and, according to their mutual agreement, Lufthansa exercises operational control.
The main administrative headquarters of Germanwings is located in Cologne. It is a company with an impressive fleet consisting of 29 Airbus 319 (A319) and Airbus 320 (A320 aircraft. With this fleet, from its four most important bases (Cologne/Bonn, Stuttgart, Berlin, Hamburg), Germanwings flies to 65 different European destinations. We will highlight some of them: Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, London, Moscow, Paris, Zurich, Munich, Vienna, Milan, Budapest, Zagreb, Belgrade, Pristina, Sofia, Ankara, Istanbul, Athens, etc.
