Medina: Suicide bomber detonated near the Prophet's Mosque

A suicide bomber detonated near a police checkpoint by the Prophet's Mosque in Medina, and another explosion occurred near a mosque in the Saudi city of Qatif, Saudi media report, as stated by the Patria news agency.

Saudi state TV al-Arabya reported on the explosion near the Prophet's Mosque in Medina. The Prophet's Mosque is the burial place of Prophet Muhammad and the second holiest site in Islam after Mecca.

Earlier, at least one explosion occurred near a mosque in the Saudi city of Qatif, Reuters reported.

Witnesses state that body parts, which they claim belong to the suicide bomber, were scattered on the ground in Qatif.

"It was a suicide bomber, without a doubt. I saw body parts scattered," a local resident told AFP.

Nasima al-Sada, a resident of Qatif, said that the suicide bomber detonated a bomb near a mosque visited by Shia Muslims.

Earlier on Monday, two security forces members were injured when a suicide bomber detonated a bomb in front of the US consulate in the coastal city of Jeddah.
