LONDON, (Patria) - British Prime Minister Theresa May will today try to "pressure" EU leaders in Brussels for legally binding changes to the Brexit agreement.
The Prime Minister will insist that Great Britain will not be "trapped" in a backstop – a plan to avoid the return of Irish border controls due to the absence of a trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the EU.
May will have to convey a message to European leaders that the deal must be changed if she is to win the support of MPs who called on her to seek "alternative arrangements" after the deal was rejected last month.
However, the EU has repeatedly rejected the possibility of amending the withdrawal agreement.
May's visit is overshadowed by Donald Tusk's statements yesterday, who said there is a "special place in hell" for those who advocated for Brexit without a plan to deliver it.
British MPs who supported leaving in the 2016 referendum reacted angrily to the comments, accusing the President of the European Council of "arrogance".
