Mass drone attack on Moscow: Russian authorities claim almost 200 aircraft intercepted

(Patria) – Moscow was the target of a massive drone attack last night, confirmed by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who reported on the situation throughout the night. According to him, Russian forces shot down 34 Ukrainian drones flying towards the capital, reports The Kyiv Independent.

The Russian Ministry of Defense later announced that a total of 193 drones were intercepted during the night, including 40 over the Moscow region. Of this number, 34 aircraft were directed straight at Moscow. These claims could not be independently verified. Due to the threat of attacks, Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports temporarily suspended operations.

According to Russian Telegram channels, explosions were recorded in several parts of the city and surrounding areas, including the Kommunarka district. There are no reports of casualties, while Mayor Sobyanin stated that all emergency services were dispatched to the drone crash sites.

The Russian Telegram channel Astra reported that a fire broke out in an oil depot in Serpukhov, Moscow region, in the evening. Local officials did not confirm the cause of the fire, but stated that it was quickly extinguished.

Ukrainian authorities have not commented on the attack. Kyiv regularly uses long-range drones to target military and industrial facilities in Russia, including refineries and arms factories. A similar attack with 34 drones on Moscow occurred on September 22.

At the same time, Russia continues with massive missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities. Five people were killed and dozens injured in attacks on Kyiv over the past two nights. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia has attacked Ukraine with almost 1,200 combat drones and 50 missiles in the past week alone.
