Mašović at NATO Military Committee Meeting in Brussels

(Patria) - Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of BiH, Lieutenant General Senad Mašović, participated in the NATO Military Committee meeting at the Chiefs of Staff level, which was held on January 14 at NATO headquarters in Brussels, the BiH Ministry of Defense announced.

The delegation of the Armed Forces of BiH also included the Head of the Military Part of the BiH Mission to NATO, Brigadier Jasmin Čajić, Head of the Office of the Chief of the Joint Staff of the AF BiH, Brigadier Edin Fako, Deputy Head of the Military Part of the BiH Mission to NATO, Brigadier Velibor Purković, and Staff Officer in the Military Part of the BiH Mission to NATO, Major Zvonimir Duvnjak.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the current security and political situation in Afghanistan and the implementation of tasks in new circumstances characterized by the post-election process, peace negotiations, and rising tensions in the region. On that occasion, the Chiefs of Staff exchanged views and opinions with proposals for future activities. In the end, they expressed support for the commander of the "Resolute Support" mission and confirmed their commitment to continuing the mission until the conditions for the full transition of security responsibility to Afghan forces are met.

The statement states that, on the sidelines of the meeting, General Mašović had brief meetings with the Chiefs of Staff of the armed forces of the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Croatia, and Georgia.

As an introduction to today's meeting, on January 13, an official reception was organized by the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, General Stuart Peach, for the Chiefs of Staff and military representatives of member states and operational partners. During the official reception, General Mašović met and spoke with the host of the reception, General Peach, and among others, with Lieutenant General Tod Wolters – SACEUR, and the Chiefs of Staff of the Federal Republic of Germany and Greece.

In addition to participating in the mentioned meeting, General Mašović visited the BiH Military Mission to NATO, where he met with the newly appointed Head of the BiH Mission to NATO in Brussels, Ambassador Mitar Kujundžić. During the meetings at the Military Part of the BiH Mission to NATO, General Mašović was informed by a briefing from Brigadier Čajić about the current and future activities of the BiH Military Mission to NATO, with a special focus on potential future cooperation with the European Defence Agency - EDA, according to the statement from the Public Relations Office of the BiH Ministry of Defense.
