Masked attackers killed 12 journalists in editorial office

Twelve people were killed in an attack by two men on the editorial office of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in the center of Paris, reports RT, transmits the news agency Patria.

French television network iTELE reports a statement from an eyewitness who said he saw the attack from a neighboring building in the center of the French capital.

"About half an hour ago, two men with black hoods entered the building with Kalashnikovs," Benoit Bringer told the network.

"A few minutes later, shots were heard," he added, saying that the attackers were seen fleeing the building.

According to initial information, two masked attackers entered the newspaper's editorial office around 12:00 PM and started shooting at employees with "Kalashnikovs". 12 journalists were killed.

Other employees are hiding in offices, and some of them have gone to the roof.

This newspaper had previously published several caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, which caused outrage in the Islamic world. The decision to publish them came amid large protests in the Muslim world due to a film made in the USA that mocked Muhammad a.s. and characterized Muslims as violent.

At that time, the highest representative of the Paris mosque, Dalil Boubakeur, called on French Muslims to remain calm so as not to further increase anger across the Muslim world.
