Massacre in France: Five killed, attacker surrendered

(Patria) - Two security agents and two migrants were killed in a shooting in Loon-Plage, near the northern city of Dunkirk, French media reported yesterday, citing security sources.

A twenty-two-year-old man surrendered to nearby authorities after the shooting, saying he was the attacker and that he had killed a fifth person earlier that day in a nearby town.

The suspect surrendered to the police station in Ghyvelde, east of Dunkirk, a source familiar with the investigation said, without providing further details about the incident.

Authorities found three more weapons in his car.

Representatives of the ministries of interior and justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The motives for the shooting are unclear.

Loon-Plage, located about 10 kilometers from the English Channel, is home to a migrant camp. The local prefecture announced that an investigation has been opened.
