(Patria) - The attacker who opened fire on children gathered for prayer in a Minneapolis church was "obsessed with the idea of killing children," investigators announced. Two children were killed – eight-year-old Fletcher Merkel and ten-year-old Harper Moyski – while another 18 students were injured.
Police Chief Brian O'Hara said the 23-year-old Robin Westman "had no clear motive, other than hatred towards everyone, and especially towards children." The attacker committed suicide at the scene.
The investigation showed that he used three legally purchased weapons and fired dozens of rounds through the church windows. Explosive material was also found, and a note he left expressed hatred towards several groups, including Jews and former President Donald Trump.
The FBI Director described the attack as "an act of domestic terrorism motivated by hate ideology".
Parents and witnesses described horrific scenes, while Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey once again called for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.
