Mark Carney is the new Prime Minister of Canada

(Patria) - Newly elected Liberal Party leader Mark Carney was sworn in today as the 24th Prime Minister of Canada at Rideau Hall, the official residence in the capital city of Ottawa.

- We are a very focused government, focused on action - Carney told reporters in front of Rideau Hall before the ceremony itself.

He also shared a post on the X platform, in which he wrote that "today we are building a government that matches the moment. Canadians expect action - and that is what this team will deliver".

"A smaller, more experienced cabinet that will act faster, secure our economy and protect Canada's future - Carney added.

Outgoing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau officially resigned today, dissolving his 37-member cabinet.

Carney is a former governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England. He also worked at Goldman Sachs and played a key role in guiding Canada through the 2008 financial crisis.
