(Patria) - At a United Nations session in New York, Malta, Monaco, Belgium and Luxembourg joined France and Portugal in officially recognizing the Palestinian state.
A striking speech was given by French President Emmanuel Macron as well as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. They called for peace in Gaza and condemned Israel's actions.
Earlier, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia recognized Palestine.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas addressed the member states via video link and thanked them for every recognition. He called on Hamas to lay down their arms and emphasized that Hamas will have no connection to governance in Palestine.
