Mothers of Srebrenica: Our children did not disappear, they were killed and thrown into mass graves!

(Patria) - A press conference was held today at the Srebrenica Memorial Center on the occasion of the International Day of the Disappeared. The problems of finding missing persons, especially those killed in the genocide in Srebrenica, were discussed by Ševket Hafizović, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, the president of the Association 'Movement of Mothers of the Srebrenica and Žepa Enclaves', Munira Subašić, the president of the Association 'Srebrenica Mothers', Fadila Efendić, the president of the Association 'Women of Srebrenica', Nura Begović, and Šuhra Sinanović, the president of the Association 'Women of Podrinje' Bratunac.

The mothers pointed out that the people killed in the genocide in Srebrenica, about 1,200 of whom are still being searched for, did not disappear but were taken, selected, and led to chosen locations where they were executed, and then buried in mass graves. They reminded that many mothers have passed away forever without finding even a single bone of their children. For the fact that they have been searched for for so many years, as they stated, the Prosecutor's Office and the International Community, which failed to prevent the crime of genocide, are responsible. Munira Subašić, a mother who buried only a few bones of her son, emphasized that they, the mothers, will never give up searching for their loved ones, no matter how many years pass.

It is noticeable that there are fewer and fewer of those who should, on the occasion of such dates, be with the mothers and together with them in the struggle they have been waging tirelessly for decades, while demanding that the remaining victims of the past war in our country be found.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Srebrenica Memorial Center, Ševket Hafizović, stated that the most frequently unanswered question posed by almost every mother from Podrinje is 'Where are our loved ones?'. He repeated, as he did last year on August 30, that the survivors demand from the institutions of Serbia and the RS to show a bit of humanity and provide information about mass graves, so that the victims can be adequately exhumed, identified, and dignifiedly buried, and the survivors can find peace.

The mothers and present surviving family members of the victims, after the press conference, laid flowers, recited Fatiha for all the killed, and performed the noon prayer under the musalla of the Memorial Center.
