Mothers from Gaza after the attack on the school: Our starving children were killed

(Patria) - Israeli forces bombed the Al-Fakhoura school in the Jabalia refugee camp, which houses thousands of displaced Palestinians in the north of the blockaded Gaza Strip. This is one in a series of attacks on this refugee camp.

A statement from the Ministry of Interior in the Gaza Strip said that “many Palestinians were killed and wounded,” but that the exact number is being determined.

„I was with my children trying to get fresh eggs to feed them. They had been starving for days. I managed to get hold of food and on the way back, missiles were fired at the school building. My daughter was hit by shrapnel,” one mother told Al Jazeera.

Another woman sat in a corner of the emergency room.

„Since our homes were shelled, we had nowhere to go except the UN school building. We thought the school might be safer. Now, nowhere is safe, schools are shelled with missiles. There is no food or water, no electricity, our children are dying of hunger,” she said in tears and added:

“There isn’t even any clothes – we ran barefoot to save ourselves. They showered us with missiles. Our starving children were killed, torn to pieces, others suffered severe wounds. Our children are starving and bleeding, the whole world is watching.”

According to data from the Palestinian Ministry of Health, 9,488 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza so far.

“Among the victims are 3,900 children and 2,509 women, while 24,000 people have been injured,” said Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra at a press conference in Gaza City.

He added that “70 percent of the victims of the aggression are children, women and the elderly.”

According to his words, 2,200 missing persons are being searched for under the rubble, among them 1,250 children, N1 reports.

“At least 150 medical workers have been killed, and 27 ambulances have been destroyed and put out of service as a result of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip,” Qudra added.
