Mother suspected of murdering newborn near Ploče

(Patria) - Following the completion of a criminal investigation, a 28-year-old mother is suspected of the aggravated murder of a newborn baby on Saturday in Rogotin, the Dubrovnik-Neretva police announced on Wednesday.

The law prescribes a prison sentence of at least ten years or a long-term prison sentence for this criminal offense.

"Following a report on Saturday evening, August 9, police found the lifeless body of a newborn in the family home of the suspect, while the suspect was transported to a healthcare facility due to her health condition. An investigation was conducted at the scene, and the body of the newborn was transported to the Department of Pathology at the General Hospital Dubrovnik, where an autopsy determined that the child's death was violent," the police stated.

The suspect, a 28-year-old woman, was handed over to the detention unit of the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Administration on Wednesday morning, along with a criminal complaint to the competent state prosecutor's office.

The criminal investigation was completed by police officers of the Dubrovnik-Neretva Police Administration in coordination with the County State Prosecutor's Office in Dubrovnik.

"Given the extreme sensitivity of the case, we will not disclose further details of the conducted criminal investigation," the police emphasized, reports Hina.
