Maestro Safet Zec to open exhibition at Historical Museum on November 25, Statehood Day of BiH

SARAJevo, (Patria) - The City of Sarajevo and Safet Zec Studio, in cooperation with the Historical Museum, are organizing a major three-month exhibition of Maestro Zec's opus "Embraces". The exhibition will be opened on the Statehood Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, November 25, 2019, and the works will be exhibited until February 29, 2020. As emphasized at today's press conference, all proceeds from the exhibition will contribute to the renovation and operation of the Historical Museum, as one of the most significant cultural institutions in BiH.

Maestro Safet Zec announced the exhibition today in the company of the Museum Director - Elma Hašimbegović and the Mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka.

Works from the "Embraces" cycle previously adorned the walls of the Venetian church "Santa Maria della Pieta", and are now coming to Sarajevo with the support of the City of Sarajevo, Zec said.

"I will supplement the exhibition with works from the same cycle, which are in Sarajevo, and Venice did not see them. I chose the Historical Museum because it communicates excellently with the message my works convey," said Maestro Zec.

Mayor Skaka emphasized that the opus "Embraces" is, in a way, the culmination of the work of this great painter and artist, which is why it is important that the BiH public will have the opportunity to see them.

"Maestro Zec, his entire work and reputation in the world, are part of BiH's national treasure. His themes are our themes, his expression is the expression of the Bosnian man. Only our man feels those paintings like no one else. BiH has always been a place from which values, talent, and success that enriched the world and other cultures spread. Our greats are part of world heritage like Zec, Berber, Mujezinović, Dimitrijević. And that's good. But, I think it's time to return part of that treasure to Sarajevo and BiH, to keep it and preserve it for generations. That is why this exhibition is a gift to the citizens for Statehood Day and why it is historically important," emphasized Mayor Skaka.

Director Hašimbegović stressed that this is a very important cultural event, especially for the Historical Museum.

"During the three months of its duration, we expect significant attendance. It is truly a valuable collection that will enrich the permanent exhibitions in the Museum. I am convinced that the proceeds from the exhibition will also help in the renovation and preservation of the Historical Museum - Hašimbegović stated.
