Maduro, accompanied by agents, placed in New York detention center

(Patria) - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has arrived at a detention center in Brooklyn, New York.

The official White House Rapid Response account posted a video on platform X showing DEA agents bringing Maduro into custody.

With handcuffs on his wrists and wearing slippers, walking alongside the agents, Maduro first speaks in English: "Good night," and then in Spanish: "Es buenas noches, no?" (Good night, isn't it?).

After that, he repeats "Good night" and adds "Happy New Year."

Charged on various federal counts, including narcoterrorism conspiracy, Maduro will appear for the first time tomorrow at the federal court in Manhattan, a Justice Department official announced.

The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Venezuela ordered yesterday that Vice President Delcy Rodriguez assume the role of acting president of the country in Maduro's absence.

The court ruling states that Rodriguez will take on "the duties of the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to guarantee administrative continuity and the comprehensive defense of the nation."

The ruling adds that the court will discuss the matter to "determine the applicable legal framework to guarantee the continuity of the state, government administration, and defense of sovereignty due to the forced absence of the President of the Republic."

The New York Times, citing an unnamed senior Venezuelan official, reports that at least 40 people—civilians and soldiers—were killed in the U.S. military attack on Venezuela in which President Maduro was "abducted."
