Maduro to visit Iran to personally thank for aid

(Patria) – Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro stated on Monday that he plans to visit Iran soon.

Maduro specified that he plans to sign cooperation agreements with Iran in various sectors, including energy.

The gesture by the Venezuelan president towards Iran followed Iran's delivery of five fuel tankers to Venezuela, which is suffering from shortages due to US sanctions.

'I am obliged to personally thank the people,' Maduro said in an address broadcast by state television.

Iran has announced that it will continue with fuel shipments if Caracas requests it, despite US criticism of trade between the two countries, both under US sanctions.

Both countries have long-standing poor relations with the United States, which have further deteriorated in the past few years.
