Hungarian Member of European Parliament Resigns Over 'Brussels Sex Party'

(Patria) – József Szájer from Hungary announced his resignation as a Member of the European Parliament after finding himself at the center of a scandal labeled in the media as 'Brussels sex party' last Friday.

Szájer issued a statement to the Hungarian media on Tuesday evening, in which he admits to attending the controversial gathering.

– I did not use drugs; I offered the police to test me on the spot, but they did not. The police claim to have found an ecstasy tablet on me. It is not mine, I don't know who planted it or how. I stated this in my statement to the police, writes the soon-to-be former Member of the European Parliament. At the end of the statement, he apologized for 'violating the assembly ban' and that it was 'irresponsible' on his part, and that he would 'accept the penalty'.

Belgian police raided what they called a 'lockdown sex party' held in the center of Brussels, which allegedly involved many diplomats and a member of parliament – a fact reported by numerous Belgian media outlets even before Szájer's official statement.

The Belgian public prosecutor's office sent a statement to the Euronews portal on Tuesday afternoon confirming that the police received a report about the party on Friday around 9:30 PM. 'The police were informed by neighbors who complained about the noise and possible violation of measures related to the COVID-19 pandemic,' the prosecutor's statement reads.

– The police found about 20 people in the apartment. Identity checks were carried out, and two individuals invoked diplomatic immunity, the statement says, continuing: 'A passerby reported to the police that he saw a man fleeing and identified him. His hands were bloody. It is possible he injured himself while fleeing. Narcotics were found in his backpack. He did not have personal documents. The police escorted him to his place of residence where he identified himself as S.J. (born 1961) based on his diplomatic passport.'

Euronews interprets S.J. as Szájer, József, who was indeed born in 1961.

The prosecutor's statement also states that the police report mentioned 'non-compliance with COVID-19 measures' for all attendees, as well as 'violation of drug laws' for Member of Parliament Szájer.

In addition to announcing his resignation, Szájer attempted to explain his behavior by stating that 'daily political struggle has become a growing mental burden for him'.

– When you are on the battlefield, you have to be ready to fight, he wrote in a statement to the Hungarian media.
