Emmanuel Macron has accused demonstrators of exploiting the death of a teenager shot by police
at close range, the BBC reported.

At a crisis meeting, the French president said more police would be deployed to curb the violence, but did not declare a state of emergency. He called on parents to keep their children at home and for social media platforms to remove certain content.

France has been rocked by three nights of unrest after 17-year-old Nahel M. was killed while driving away from a traffic stop. More than 915 people were arrested on Thursday evening alone, officials said, and the government announced it would deploy 45,000 police officers in an attempt to curb further violence.

Macron said that about a third of those arrested for the riots were "young or very young," and Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin later said some were 13 years old.
Urging parents to take action, he said it was their "responsibility" to keep any child intending to protest "at home."

Macron condemned the violence of the past three days "with the greatest determination" and said Nahel's death had been used to justify acts of violence, calling it "unacceptable exploitation of the death of an adolescent."

He also called on social media companies such as TikTok and Snapchat to remove "the most sensitive types of content" that had been posted and to provide authorities with the names of people using their services to organize violence.
