Macron: Europe must not become an American vassal

(Patria) - French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech on the future of Europe at the Sorbonne University.

He called for a stronger and more integrated European defense, emphasizing that the continent must not become a vassal of the USA.

He warned that Europe is at a turning point and could "die" if it falls behind global rivals in the next decade.

The battle to build a strong Europe is far from won, the head of the French state points out. He also believes that military, economic, and other pressures could dismantle the EU and that a change in the current economic growth model is necessary because, as he says, it is not sustainable.

- We are living in a time of global upheaval and great acceleration. Our Europe is mortal today and could die. It depends solely on our choices - Macron added.

His wish, he says, is for the EU to be a world leader by 2030 in five strategic areas - artificial intelligence, space exploration, biotechnology, quantum computing, renewable and nuclear energy.

Macron also hopes that the EU will strengthen its domestic military industry because, he says, it is not sufficiently armed to deal with global threats and rivals.

- The main danger to European security is the war in Ukraine. The condition of all conditions is that Russia does not win this war of aggression - he emphasized.

He called on Europe to be the master of its own destiny, stating that in the past it has been too dependent on Russia for energy and on America for security.

- We must continue to build partnerships with other countries. This means building a Europe that can show that it is not an American vassal and that knows how to talk to all regions of the world, with the rising countries of Africa and Latin America - Macron concluded.
