Macron: If the US abandons Ukraine, the world faces catastrophe

(Patria) - French President Emmanuel Macron warned that a US withdrawal of support for Ukraine would have catastrophic consequences, not only for Kyiv but also for global security.

In an interview with the French newspaper La Tribune, he said that if Russian leader Vladimir Putin is not stopped now, the war could spread to other European countries.

Macron emphasized that the US cannot abandon Ukraine because its strategic role is crucial for world security.

He warned that accepting a ceasefire without security guarantees for Ukraine would weaken US influence in countering Russia, China, and other global powers.

- I have no doubt that the destiny of Americans is to be on the side of Ukrainians. Distancing from Ukraine is not in the interest of the United States.

What the US has done over the past three years is entirely in line with its diplomatic and military tradition. I want Americans to understand that abandoning Ukraine is not in their interest - Macron said.

And while Trump increasingly leans toward negotiations with Putin and reaching a ceasefire, Macron believes this would be a serious mistake.

- Of course we all want peace. But there can be no just and lasting peace if Ukraine is abandoned - Macron added.

He assessed that Russia today poses a greater existential threat to Europe than ever before.

- On our borders stands a heavily armed and aggressive Russia. It is already carrying out terrorist attacks and large-scale disinformation campaigns in Europe - the French president said.

He believes Putin does not plan to stop there and is convinced that if he is not stopped in Ukraine, he will continue toward Moldova, and perhaps further toward Romania.

According to The Washington Post, the administration of US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of suspending all military aid to Ukraine.

The New York Times reports that the Trump administration could also cut other forms of support, such as military financing, intelligence sharing, and training of Ukrainian forces.

The US State Department has already halted a project by the US Agency for International Development (USAID) aimed at rebuilding Ukraine's energy infrastructure after Russian attacks.

Analysts from the US think tank Institute for the Study of War (ISW) have warned that Russia continues to deepen ties with US adversaries.
