Lynne Ramsay to receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo

(Patria) - In recognition of her exceptional contribution to filmmaking, Scottish director, screenwriter, and producer Lynne Ramsay will be awarded the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo at the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival.

Ramsay will receive the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo on August 16th at the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema, followed by a gala screening of YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE, starring Joaquin Phoenix.

Based on the book by Jonathan Ames, YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE premiered at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, where it won awards for Best Screenplay (ex-aequo) and Best Actor (Joaquin Phoenix).

Born in Glasgow, Lynne Ramsay is considered one of the most original and exciting auteurs working in independent cinema today. Her connection with the Cannes Film Festival is long-standing, where she won the Jury Prize in 1996 for her short graduation film SMALLS AND DEATH, and also for her third short film GASMAN in 1998. RATCATCHER, her debut feature film, premiered in the Un Certain Regard section, for which she received a Special Distinction.

Her next feature film MORVERN CALLAR premiered at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival in the Directors' Fortnight section, and received the Youth Award for Best Foreign Film.

Lynne Ramsay's third feature film WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN was the only British film nominated for the Palme d'Or in the official competition at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Tilda Swinton was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role in the film. The film received several BAFTA nominations and won the award for Best Director at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFA), the award for Best Film at the London Film Festival, and the award for Best Screenplay from the Writers' Guild of Great Britain.

Ramsay most recently directed the 18th film for Miu Miu's Women's Tales short film anthology. This is the sensitive and cathartic short documentary BRIGITTE about French photographer Brigitte Lacombe, which premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival.

The 29th Sarajevo Film Festival will be held from August 11th to August 18th, 2023.
