Lukashenko confirmed meeting with Putin planned for the end of the month

(Patria) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko yesterday confirmed plans to meet with Russian leader Vladimir Putin at the end of April.

The meeting is planned during a forum in the Russian city of Volgograd, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II.

- This is a very special year for the Vitebsk region, for our Belarus. And we are actually taking the first steps to celebrate this great victory today - said the Belarusian president.

He stated this while visiting a church in Tolochin, in the Vitebsk region, TASS reported, citing the Belarusian agency Belta.

Lukashenko called 2025 a special year for Belarus, due to the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II.

- In the coming days, we will continue these celebrations near Stalingrad, on Volgograd land. We have agreed with the President of Russia, we will meet there, talk with the youth, pay tribute to the heroes who fought on the Volga.

Then - a parade in Moscow, in Belarus. And by Independence Day (celebrated on July 3 in Belarus), we will pay tribute to those who brought us this life - said Lukashenko.

The Vitebsk region was among the hardest hit during World War II.

- Even now, as we work on evidence of fascist atrocities in our Belarus, we are working to identify facts about the genocide of the Belarusian people. And you know, we are finding many burial sites in the Vitebsk region - said Lukashenko.
