(Patria) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has ordered an inspection of the combat readiness of the country's armed forces, the Belarusian Ministry of Defense announced.
This decision comes amid heightened tensions in Europe due to suspected Russian sabotage and repeated violations of NATO airspace by drones, writes the Kyiv Independent.
According to the Ministry's statement, the Belarusian army is carrying out "a series of measures" to bring selected units, under Lukashenko's direct instructions, to the "highest level of combat readiness".
Certain units will be deployed to pre-determined areas where they will carry out tasks specified in the presidential directive.
This readiness check followed immediately after annual mobilization exercises held in Belarus from October 7 to 10.
The aim of the exercises was to improve coordination between local authorities and civil organizations in forming territorial defense units and the people's militia.
Last month, Belarus and Russia held large joint military exercises "Zapad-2025". The Kremlin announced at the time that around 100,000 soldiers participated, representing a show of force that further increased tensions along NATO's eastern flank.
The "Zapad" exercises, held every four years, are officially aimed at defensive operations, but have long caused concern in Europe.
When the exercises began, Poland temporarily closed all border crossings with Belarus.
