Lukashenko announces new candidacy for President of Belarus

(Patria) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that he will run for president again in 2025, the Belarusian state news agency BelTA reported yesterday.

- Tell them (the exiled opposition) that I will run. No, no responsible president would abandon his people who followed him into the fight - Lukashenko told reporters after voting in the parliamentary and local elections.

The 69-year-old Lukashenko has ruled Belarus since 1994 and is one of the closest allies of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

- We are still a year away from the presidential elections. Much can change. Of course, I and all of us, society, will react to the changes that will occur in our society and to the situation in which we will approach the elections in a year - he responded to a follow-up question from journalists about the elections.
