(Patria) - Iranian Vice President for Executive Affairs Mohsen Mansouri said that two members of President Ebrahim Raisi's entourage contacted rescue teams, indicating that the air incident involving their helicopter was not severe.
Mansouri said on Sunday that President Raisi's helicopter and two other helicopters were en route to the city of Tabriz after the president and his Azerbaijani counterpart inaugurated the Qiz Qalasi Dam on the border between the two countries.
Half an hour after their flight, Raisi's helicopter lost contact with the other two helicopters, prompting them to search the area, Mansouri said, adding that two members of the president's entourage contacted rescue teams, indicating that the incident was not severe.
Another promising development is that the Ministry of Communications managed to determine the accident location within a two-kilometer radius, he added.
Rescuers have found the helicopter of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Iranian state television reported.
For now, there is no information on the condition of Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, who was also with him.
Meanwhile, Russia and Saudi Arabia have offered assistance to Iran in the search and rescue operation, and the European Union said it had activated the Copernicus satellite system to help search for the helicopter.
Recall, earlier today one of the three helicopters from the convoy of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashed.
