(Patria) – Newly elected US President Joe Biden will most likely appoint Linda Thomas-Greenfield as Ambassador to the United Nations, Western media reported, citing a source from Democratic ranks close to Biden.
The appointment of Thomas-Greenfield, an African-American woman who held senior diplomatic positions in the former administration of Barack Obama, has another purpose – to help Biden fulfill his promise of diversity in his new cabinet, Reuters reports.
In the Obama administration, Thomas-Greenfield served as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs from 2013 to 2017, during challenges such as the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.
After leaving the State Department, this leading candidate for a high position at the UN took a leadership role in Madeleine Albright's strategic company, 'Albright Stonebridge Group'.
Otherwise, Biden plans to announce the names of the first elected members of his cabinet on Tuesday, the new White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain also announced. A significantly smaller inauguration ceremony is also planned – due to the risk of coronavirus spread.
